In the absence of a specific timetable, how should we live in the face of Christ's imminent return? As you might expect, the Bible has plenty to say on the subject.
Communicate God's Word as if we're running out of time. (2 Timothy 4:1-2)
Control the tendency to judge others by reflecting on the final judgment. (1 Corinthians 4:5)
Develop patience as we eagerly await the Lord's return. (James 5:8)
Gathered faithfully and regularly with other believers. (Hebrews 10:25)
Maintain a pure life. (1 John 3:2-3)
Remember Jesus's death, resurrection, and return when we partake of the Lord's supper. ( 1 Corinthians 11:26)
Lead others to Christ (Jude 1:21-23)
Take and give comfort based on Christ's imminent return. (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 18)
Think about others. (Colossians 3:1-4)
Love others. (1Thessalonians 3:12-13)
Many people consider studying the book of Revelation a waste of time, perhaps they find the book too confusing and become discouraged. But the fact is we can't ignore what the Bible has to say about the end of the world. After all, our hope and vision for the future affects what we do today. After Jesus has defeated all of His enemies, He will return as final judge. He will hold all people accountable for their actions. On that day Jesus will finally answer the cries for justice (Revelation 6:9). Believers know that when we appear before Christ for final judgment, we will not have our works to fall back on, for it is by grace we are saved ( Ephesians 2:8) not by works. Our Lord and Savior will cover our sins (Romans 8:33-34). After establishing his kingdom Christ will control all things forever and ever (1 Corinthians 15:28). Christians should eagerly seek Christ’s return not the world’s approval (Hebrews 11:10-13, 26). Jesus outlined the signs for his last days precisely so that we will be watchful for his return (Mark 13:33). Christ is our hope and as Christians we should look forward to Christ’s second coming and seek his will. For it is only through Christ that we can avoid the pain and suffering of an eternity without Him in hell.
