According to Genesis 1 and 2 God created man for himself and placed them in a perfect paradise called the Garden of Eden. We had perfect fellowship with God that is until, Satan in the guise of the serpent fooled Adam and Eve into disobedience, causing them to lose favor with God.
Satan was originally created for God's glory. He was perfect, as is everything that comes from God (Genesis 1:31; Psalms 92:15). But Satan, thinking that he could be like God rebels (1Timothy 3:6; Jude 1:6), Satan's pride is reflected in the words of the prophet Ezekiel and Isaiah to the kings of Babylon: "you were the perfect example. Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You became too proud because of your beauty. You wasted your wisdom because of your greatness." (Ezekiel 20 8: 12, 17). "You thought 'I'll go up to heaven and set my throne above God's stars. I'll be like the most high.'" ( Isaiah 14:13-14).
When Adam and Eve sinned against God. They were fooled into believing that they can become like God. But in reality, they allow the entire human race to be enslaved to sin and therefore under Satan's rule. Scripture repeatedly describes Satan as the "ruler" or "god of this world" (John 14:30; 2Corinthians 4:4; 1John 5:19). Satan holds sway in dominion over this world from the oppressive political structures to sickness and death. (Revelation 12:13; 13:4-8; 18:1-20) (Mark 5:1-15; John 8:44)
Revelation 12:7-9 tells of a war in Heaven between Satan and the Archangel Michael. After Satan is defeated and thrown from heaven, he turns his attention to God's people (Revelation 12:12). Our only hope against Satan is Jesus Christ, Christ alone is sufficient for through him we have access to God via the Holy Spirit, who gives us power to resist the devil. (Romans 8:26;1 Peter 5:8-10). Satan sole purpose is the downfall and destruction of Christianity. As Christians we can guard ourselves against Satan by keeping our eyes on Christ.
Remember Satan Is Defeated. (Revelation 20)
